There were eight events in this year’s Warrior Cup with 13 teams competing from nine different units.
“This event is held for the warriors of Cherry Point,” said Berna Crosby, Semper Fit special events coordinator for Cherry Point.
With sweat dripping down the Marines and Sailors’ faces, it was apparent they were physically pushing themselves to the max.
The events included a seven-ton truck pull, fireman’s carry, high/low crawls, ammo-box relay, three legged race, dizzy izzy contest, paintball challenge and tug-of-war competition.
The winners would get points for each event and the over all winners would win the grand prize.
“The twelve man teams pulled, carried and lifted to win the $700 first place prize for their units,” said Crosby. “The winners of the tug-of-war competition also won $300. All winnings were put into the unit’s picnic and party funds in order to help pay for the Marine Corps Ball.”
Overall first place prize went to the “Spartans,” representing Marine Wing Communication Squadron 28. Team “12 pack,” made up of Marines from Marine Air Control Squadron 2, took the $300 prize for first place in the tug-of-war competition.
For second place in both competitions “Follow Me Again,” representing Combat Logistics Company 21, took home prizes totaling $600 for their unit funds.
“This year the competition was heated and made for a great day,” said Crosby. “This event was designed to be a fun way for units to get some extra physical training and win bragging rights as the best warriors aboard Cherry Point. But in the end all the Marines and Sailors here are true warriors.”
