Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Images

Sep 11, 2014

John L. Wilson reaches the top flight of stairs during a ceremonial stair climb at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Sept. 9, 2014. For the second year the department climbed 110 flights of stairs to commemorate the 343 firefighters who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Wilson is a captain with Cherry Point Security and Emergency Services, Fire Division. Wilson, a native of Vanceboro, N.C., was 32 years old during 9/11 and was working at Cherry Point driving fire-engine 2 when he heard the news. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Wilson. “Everyone was in complete shock. All I could think about was all those at ground zero and worried for the firefighters making the climb and braving the towers.”
