Heavy helicopter detachment returns to Cherry Point from Iraq

More than 300 troops returned home from supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, Feb 2, including 65 Marines from Cherry Point’s Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 366.

According to the squadron’s commanding officer, Lt. Col. James F. Harp, the HMH-366 detachment was the last Marine heavy helicopter squadron to fly in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Major Jacob M. Matt, the officer in charge of the HMH-366 detachment, said during their time in Iraq the squadron flew more than 368 combat hours with four CH-53E Super Stallions
